1.0 Most of the problems on tempered glass door are caused by the floor closer. We used to get calls and emails from factories in our areas of service like Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Klang and Port Klang regarding tempered glass door giving problems!

2.0 What are the common problems of tempered glass door?

2.1 The door cannot shut at all.

2.2 The door takes ages to shut.

2.3 The door shut too fast ; there is no control in shutting ; it flings.

2.4 The floor closer is giving out squeaky sound when it closes.

2.5 The tempered glass door leaf sinks and touches the floor.

3.0 What caused the above problems?

3.1 Wear and tear - the floor closer exceeding the life span ( exceeding the set number of times utilisation ).

3.2 Not properly maintained - water being clogged in the casing.

3.3 Subjected to excessive or abusive usage - like not letting the door shut by itself.

3.4 Not being installed according to standard procedures.

3.5 The capacity of the floor closer and the door size do not match.

4.0 When properly installed and under normal usage and surrounding conditions, floor closer by VVP, DORMA, KWF-TEC, USAF will not get spoilt easily. They come with warranty period.

5.0 We don't do tempered glass door / floor closer repair : if it's under warranty period, customer will get a replacement for the faulty set ; if it has reached it's life span, customer needs to change for a new set.

6.0 When the pivot of the floor closer shows sign of oily patch and spreads to the cover of the casing, it is the sign that the floor closer is about to give problem.

1.When electro magnetic lock is used on the tempered glass door, then it only opens in one direction.

2. A door stopper is also used when the tempered glass door is required to be opened in one specific direction.

Another tempered glass door was installed next to the fire door as illustrated by the three photos in this post.

With the tempered glass door being put up, the fire door can always be opened. The customer service is able to have a clear view of who is at the door before allowing them to come in by "unlocking" the electro magnetic lock (eml) which is added to this door.

The additional sub frame being installed for the tempered glass door enable both the fire door and tempered glass door to be closed without causing its' handle to hit one another.

Will a heavy duty floor closer last longer if used on a standard-size tempered glass door ?

The life span of the floor closer, both for light and heavy duty, are the same.

From our experience, when a heavy duty floor closer is used on a standard-size tempered glass door ( which can make do with light duty floor closer ), it will make the door difficult to use ( harder to open ).

We found that floor closer on tempered glass door which opened on one-side tend to be more lasting than one opened on two-side.

How high can a tempered glass door be ?

Does a bigger / taller door wear out the floor closer faster ?

You can have a tempered glass door as high as 8'0" / 9'0".

A bigger door does not wear out the floor closer faster when compared to a smaller door.

The floor closer wears out through utilisation, on condition the usage guideline is being followed.

VVP floor closer comes with a 12-month warranty against defects like oil leakage ( when usage guideline is followed ).

How long can a floor closer / hinge last ?

Firstly, that will depend on the 'traffic' - how often the door is being utilised.

Secondly, the size/weight of the door in use must match within the limit of the capacity of the floor closer. Inevitably, a bigger/heavier door needs a bigger capacity floor closer, hence a costlier one.

Under normal usage and where guidelines are followed, the floor closer will last many years with some brands giving 150,000 to 200,000 times utilisation of the door.

Door - tempered glass door

Tempered glass is used on door because of it's safety features.

Loose pivot and patch fitting that hold the door in position will cause the door to fall / collapse or hit on the other door, thereby cause breakage.

Loose pivot and patch fitting will cause the door to "shake" : this is the 'danger' signal.

Worn-out floor hinge as indicated by grease stain surrounding the pivot will cause the door to fling / shut faster than the normal rate, thereby cause injury to people using the door.

Tempered glass door should not "shake" when you open it or fling when it closes. If you have this problem, attend to it fast.
